Sleep Awareness Week is March 14-20. In recognition of the week, our Bailey Medical Center sleep technician shares what drives him to serve his patients. I got into sleep medicine while working with abused children as a college student in 1986. The children were in a psychiatric hospital and, during night checks, I would see them sleepwalking, body rocking or hear them scream in their sleep (night terrors). The university I went to was affiliated with one of the first sleep ...centers in the country. Some of my professors were involved with this and would interject their lectures with tidbits on sleep I found interesting. I would share some of the things I was seeing with my patients at the hospital, called parasomnias, and we determined some of them were due to PTSD from the abuse they had endured. I found this fascinating and actively looked for a job in sleep to help these patients. Thirty years later, with experience in testing, diagnosing and treating the majority of sleeping disorders, becoming board-certified, publishing research and starting my own company in sleep medicine, I still find it highly rewarding to be able to help people obtain a good night’s sleep. - Robert #CelebrateSleep #SleepAwarenessWeek See more

Congratulations to Kathy C., patient access representative, for being the March 2021 Difference Maker. She was recognized for always going above and beyond in everything she does and for willingly picking up extra shifts whenever needed. Kathy performs her job duties with excellence every shift. She is quick to help the emergency department by answering phones, cleaning rooms and more. Most importantly, she always has a great attitude. We appreciate the difference Kathy makes every day!
