The Greenwood community in Tulsa, OK was an economic and entrepreneurial powerhouse - Black Wall Street. On May 31st, 100 years ago, a white mob descended on Greenwood, destroying homes and businesses, and killing an estimated 300 people. Today, we take the time to acknowledge and commemorate the anniversary of this atrocity that took place right here in our city. The continued disenfranchisement of the community through denied insurance claims, red-lining, and the urban rene...wal program (that put an interstate through the heart of Greenwood) was - and still is - detrimental to the long term success of the community, and has prevented opportunities for building generational wealth. As we pause to remember and reflect, we also look forward to the future. There are many amazing organizations and members of the community who are out there doing the work - working to push forward against the issues and inequality still present in the City of Tulsa, and to reclaim and rebuild the spirit of Black Wall Street. Our team member Adriana Vadasz recently entered a competition sponsored by Knoll and won second place! The competition asked to celebrate Earth Day by painting something inspired by the environment. For Adriana, Nature is the number one muse to her design inspiration on a day-to-day basis. Her spark for this Muuto Dot is the way that materials rust and patina - Nature adding her mark on our built environment. If something is left for nature to resolve, she will take over on her own time. She comes up with the most invigorating combinations of colors, textures and scents that makes Earth the most irreplaceable place in the Universe. My inspiration for this Muuto Dot is the way that materials rust and patina - Nature adding her mark on our built environment.
