Someone shared this and I love it!!! Educational need is SOOO much more than grades y’all
Always an honor to connect with Oklahoma PTA! I started my path towards elected office with the Norman PTA Council, and I am beyond grateful for the leadership ...experience I gained during that time. I am also grateful for all the parent and guardian PTA members for all that they do to improve our schools and public education in our state generally. This fall I encourage you to join your local PTA! PTAs work for ALL kids in our state, and their work matters! #PTA4life
In Cleveland County, no elections are scheduled for June or July 2021.
We are giving away a FREE ULTIMATE WASH to all teachers in the month of May to show our appreciation.
Monday's discussion HB1775 Veto Push.... In Oklahoma this Legislative Session, our Legislators have passed HB1775. It is on it's way to the Governor's desk and ...we are asking him to veto this bill. HB1775 would ban diversity trainings in colleges and race/gender teachings in K-12 settings. That means it would have serious implications on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, The Trail of Tears, Women's Suffrage, the OKC Sit-Ins and so much more being taught in our classrooms across Oklahoma. American and Oklahoma history is uncomfortable and not easy to talk about, but it happened. We should want our children to learn about our history in its entirety, and how to move forward as a society. Prohibiting mandatory diversity training, prohibits our teachers from doing their job. HB1775 deprives schools from teaching about our nation’s vast history. It limits what they can learn and censors educators from talking about cultural heritage and experiences. Im asking my Oklahoma family and friends to Ask Governor Stitt to #vetoHB1775 and stand against censorship. (405) 521-2342.
Teachers change the lives of millions of children every dayand in a year where instruction could be virtual, in-person or a mix of both, their immense work and impact have provided a much-needed sense of community and connection. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, educators across America are working hard to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential.
Legislators will be working on the state budget in April and May as the legislative session winds to a close. Oklahoma PTA usually spends a Day at the Capitol p...romoting our legislative priorities and advocating for education funding. This year we've opted to write letters to our legislators with pictures of our kids because our kids are the people we have in mind when we advocate for fully funded public schools. Here is a letter that you can use as a template to send to your legislators, https://docs.google.com//1Moh_q6yH0UcD4wyYZdmZxB6lwf/edit. A hand-written note is the most powerful, but you can also contact your senator here, https://oksenate.gov/contacts/contact-senator, and your representative here, https://www.okhouse.gov/Members/Default.aspx. Not sure who represents you? You can find your legislators here, http://www.oklegislature.gov/FindMyLegislature.aspx. See more
Congratulations Juan Renteria on becoming 2021 Teacher of The Year!!!
ACTION ALERT Can you trust the authors of SB 634? The newly amended bill has gone from bad to worse. The House author (O’Donnell - Catoosa) recently voted i...n favor of a bill that according to the Director of the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) would take approximately $28 million from the TRS, pushing it closer to insolvency. The Senate author (Daniels - Bartlesville) voted ‘no’ on the most recent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for the Teacher Retirement System (2020), despite the fact that retirees had gone 12 years since the previous COLA. Now, these two lawmakers want to offer a new benefit to the school employees of Oklahoma. Perhaps they have changed their minds about Oklahoma school employees and regret their voting records, or perhaps there is more to the story of SB 634. Oppose SB 634 at this link:
Polls are open for the April 6, 2021 Elections & they will remain open until 7 p.m.
