No better time than #nationallibraryweek to serve more Oklahomans who need a different way to enjoy books, magazines and newspapers. If you or someone you know can no longer use regular print materials and are in the Sooner State, the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is ready to help. Send us a Facebook message, check out www.olbph.org, or call us at 1-800-523-0288.

Over 15 years ago I was injured and could no longer do my job. DRS helped me get retraining in a new career field. As I grew older my injury turned into a disab...ility and I could no longer work. As I started going deaf they assisted with my hearing aids so I could go back to school and learn sign language. That I could help others going deaf. We decided to open a tea room where people who are deaf and hard of hearing and persons with disabilities could go. Having deaf friends who sign and we saw the looks people gave them when they were out having fun and the difficulties they had communicating. We saw our friends in wheelchairs have issues moving about in restaurants. We wanted a place they would all fit in together. DRS said when we spoke to them they could help with sending employees wanting to work but were having issues finding a position due to their needs. We hope that we can provide them with that special place to feel comfortable and independent again. William A E Busby #pwdad2021

Join us tomorrow! We will be virtual for the 26th annual People with Disabilities Awareness Day! Due to safety concerns over the coronavirus and state Capitol c...onstruction, we can’t host an on-site event. We can connect with each other from wherever we are by phone, email and social media between now and March 9. Let's all share our stories with #PWDAD2021 and create our awareness digitally. What’s your connection to Oklahomans with disabilities? Tell your story today. Send us your testimony when you signup. We traditionally wear green to show unity at PWDAD by wearing green. This year, why not post your selfie or group photo wearing green share on your favorite social media? Be sure to include #PWDAD2021 so we all can see it. See more
