Need a quick reset? Try breathing along with me as you watch the video! Inhale through your nose as you lift your hands from the center of your chest to above your head, exhale very slowly through pursed lips as you move your hands out and back to your heart. That slow exhale can help activate your Parasympathetic Nervous System and feel very calming! Anjali Mudra (the gesture of my hands in the video) helps us to ground, balance, and connect to our heart. Using this Mudra ...at the heart then lifting to the forehead symbolizes our yoga class goal for this month: Connecting who we really are at the very depths of our heart and soul to our mind so that we are living authentically through our thoughts, words, actions and decisions. Does an accelerated heart rate trigger panic for you, making it difficult to exercise? This version of my Release, Relax, Redirect Method for anxiety relief helps to relieve anxiety without getting your heart rate up too high. I will help you complete the stress response cycle while keeping your heart rate relatively low. This one is also great when you don’t want to get too warm or sweaty! We will use core work for the Release portion, diaphragmatic breathing for Relax, ...and legs-up-the-wall pose (Viparita Karani) to help ground you and Redirect you to the present moment. In legs-up-the-wall pose, gravity assists your blood back to your heart so your heart physically does not have to pump as hard. This physical reaction causes an immediate slowing of your heart rate.
