For those of you that have a Aerobic Septic systems there are several things you need to keep an eye on. Aerator Compressors need to run constantly, it’s easy enough to make sure it’s operating properly, remove the cover and see if it’s running, it also has a filter that needs cleaning regularly, usually in the top portion of the compressor. You can also remove the large covers on the system and see the water moving & churning inside the tank, not all systems will be noticeab...le inside the tank, but normally you get an alarm if there is a problem with the aerator. Effluent pumps also need to be removed and the screen cleaned, over time debris gets in the screen and can stop the pump from moving water, yearly cleaning is recommended for the pump screen as well as the compressor. Aerobic systems need pumping & cleaning every 3 to 5 yrs. depending on the number of people using the system, the more people using it the more often it needs cleaning!
