Southfield Community Center here in the Southfield mobile home park in Mounds is open for anyone who is without heat or water.

FREE STRAW It is going to be BITTERLY cold starting Monday with lows on Thursday and Friday expected to be only 10 degrees. Make plans NOW on how you're goin...g to ensure your pets stay warm and do not suffer in the cold. When the temperatures are that low, the BEST bet is to bring your pets indoors - even if it's just in your garage temporarily. Dogs, especially those with short hair like pit and boxer mixes, can NOT be left in uninsulated dog houses or sheds in this weather. A heated dog house mat and heated dog bowl can help keep your dog warm and provide access to unfrozen, fresh water if they are unable to go inside. Lots of straw bedding is also critical to insulating plastic dogs houses, so dogs can burrow down inside and stay warmer. If you, a neighbor, friend, or family member has an outdoor pet that needs insulated straw bedding for their house to help keep them warm in the coming days, please let us know. We will be handing out free, bagged straw bedding to those who need it and can't afford it. Reminder: You can "shop" for FREE gently used clothes and shoes on Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. during the time the food pantry is open. You can also drop off donations at that time. :)
