Statin Medications (cholesterol)....2 steps back, no forward movement! Heart disease is ranked our number one American killer by the CDC. They basically break d...own heart disease as high blood pressure and high LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Insulin resistance seems to be the core mechanism, or at least the main driver, or heart disease. High insulin and glucose levels cause artery inflammation. Inflammation is what attracts and produces arterial plaguing and narrowing of the arteries seen in heart disease and that can lead to heart attacks. In the American College of Endocrinology's position statement on Insulin Resistance Syndrome they emphasize the danger of insulin resistance causing high blood pressure and contributing to heart disease OVER diabetes. THAT is HUGE. Statin drugs cause a 25-45% increase in blood insulin levels! So, high blood sugar and high insulin levels cause inflammation that lead to artery plaguing and high blood pressure, the main characteristics of heart disease AND the number one treatment for heart disease are statin drugs that in turn RAISE insulin which increases heart disease risk AND these same drugs raise the risk of diabetes in people who take them by 87%!!!!! Hmmmmm.....you could make lifestyle changes, eat differently, move differently, target some nutrition, OR take a medication that will make your heart disease WORSE and could CAUSE diabetes at the same time....why would ANYONE choose this? ANSWER: they don't know. No one has shared this with them. They did not have all the info and they followed their medical authority. I don't blame the patient, at the end of the day, they want to live, free of disease. We can, and must, DO BETTER! Live well my friends! Dr. Don
