This was one of our Spanish Mustangs, he has always been curious and easy to handle. April has trained several horses for us, she does a great job, we will follow her progress on Chahta.

A historic event today! Thank you to Julianne Randleman, and her classmates at the Carlton Landing Academy for their initiative on House Bill 2196! Today the... Oklahoma House of Representatives passed HB 2196 stating the Oklahoma State Horse as the Colonial Spanish Mustang Horse, Heritage Horse of Oklahoma!! This is an honor to all Native American tribes, breeders, and conservationists who share a history and passion with these horses. Representative Randleman, we thank you for all of your work toward this bill. You were open with the consideration of including all native nations and moved forward. We look forward to watching this designation as it educates everyone to the history of our great state of Oklahoma. See more

Announcement: To our family, friends, donors, and supporters: Today I make a statement that has weighed heavy on my shoulders for quite some time. I wanted to ...share the news when my decision was made, but due to legal issues I could not make the announcement until now. As of April 2018, my association to the charity/organization listed as The Friends of the Heritage Horses, and Spanish Mustangs of Blackjack Mountain ended. The friends charity received donations to assist in the care of the Rickman Spanish Mustangs for the past few years. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well with their future endeavors. The charity ceased with their assistance in the care of my horses prior to the above date which initiated my decision. One I made with a clear conscience knowing it was in the best interest of my horses, my family, friends, and supporters. I stand by the choice I made and would ask that members of the friends charity refrain from continuing with their false accusations and untruths. In speaking to what some have been told, I have not lost my mind, no one has coerced me into taking these actions, nor did I abandon any charity that worked hard to earn monies to support my horses. I did notify the charity mentioned above about my concerns, but none of them were ever taken seriously or reconciled. It took me a while and quite a bit of thought before making my disconnection with the charity. I recognize there needs to be clarification on the following points: As most know, Darlene and I worked closely with Gilbert H. Jones to preserve the Gilbert Jones Southwest Spanish Mustang lines. We continue that work today. The researched information found on other social media sites may not be accurate. Gilbert was the founder of the Southwest Spanish Mustang Association (SSMA) and served as president until stepping down due to his health. Information provided regarding his life’s efforts with these horses can be found on the SSMA website or in my library. Please be sure you’re reading the real stories and receiving accurate information. We have had horses on Blackjack Mountain since meeting Gilbert Jones. Our connection with Blackjack Mountain and Medicine Springs Ranch was always an important one and continues to be today. Our horses are Blackjack Mountain horses, and we ask that you are careful as to what information may be put out regarding the horses that came from there. Not all horses that we own were born or removed from Blackjack Mountain. The Spirit of Blackjack Mountain website was initially formed as a tribute to our friend Gilbert, who we are sure continues to watch over his horses. The site, initially built by a friend for the Rickman Spanish Mustangs, is no longer active. Unfortunately, being that I’m not a tech-savvy individual, the site was part of a legal issue that has since been resolved. Even though the website is no longer active, we will always be the Spirit of Blackjack Mountain. As Chairman of the Southwest Spanish Mustang Association (SSMA), I want to clarify its continued existence. The organization is alive and well and is taken care of by its board members. No other entity can discuss the rules for members or breeders with 100% accuracy other than the SSMA itself. Please check with one of its members to assure you are receiving information that is true and accurate. To keep misunderstanding to a minimum, I explicitly make it known that our horses receive no support or donations from the charity listed above. I no longer have any horses on the properties owned by the charity mentioned above or their members. We in no way suggest you discontinue support of that charity if that is something you wish to do, we only want to make everyone aware of our disconnection. The charity does not help the Rickman Spanish Mustangs in any manner. My decision to end affiliation with that group did not come quickly. However, I have faith it was the morally correct decision and will be beneficial to all. We will continue to share our stories, videos, and photographs with you. I hope you will continue to support my family and me as we continue our endeavors concerning the horses. I thank all our friends, donors, and supporters for their loyalty and look forward to maintaining those friendships for a long time. The preservation efforts for our breed of horses remains a challenging one, but with your support, the horses continue to thrive. If you would like to find out how you can help with our efforts, please contact the following: Rickman Spanish Mustangs @ [email protected] or [email protected] Oklahoma Heritage Horse Sanctuary, 501C3 non-profit @ [email protected] or www.okheritagehorse.com ‘Mamma D’ @ [email protected] or www.ahorsestale.net Thank you for your time, your continued encouragement and friendship. Please help in notifying our friends by sharing the information above. We hope to reduce any uncertainty or confusion and are grateful for your understanding. As we continue working toward a secure future for the Colonial Spanish Horse Colonial Spanish Mustangs Oklahoma Heritage Horses, we look forward to communicating our progress with you. Sincerely, Bryant and Darlene Rickman Rickman Spanish Mustangs See more

It is the "Giving" season, and we've no doubt you have been solicited by every type of charity imaginable. We know there are many deserving ones out there, rea...lizing we are only trying to feed horses. However, these are unique, history-making equine who deserve their chance at a secure future. We ask that you help us to support what we believe is a worthy cause. America is changing rapidly, and we can't afford to keep losing our historical figures, or we won't have any history at all. The Colonial Spanish Horse is a part of that history, and our goal is to keep them here for future generations. If you feel the same, please click the blue button above and donate to their care. As always, we thank you for your support and friendship! See more
