Ed King was from Glendale, California and his first band was a hit Strawberry Alarm Clock who recorded a tune that Ed had co-written Incense and Peppermints". A early version of what would become Lynyrd Skynyrd called The One Percent opened for Strawberry Alarm Clock in early 1968 and Ed became enamored with the Southern rock band and eventually joined as the bass player in 1972, and later became the third guitar slinger in the band. (BST: We got to see Ed sit in with The Zigs at Blues City, perhaps 10 or 15 years ago! Forgive our lack of memory. What we won't forget was what an incredible experience!)

Liz Berntson with David Berntson: It’s been 10 years since Pinetop left us. It was always an honor to get to hang out with him at the King Biscuit Blues Festival and Pinetop Homecoming. We are so happy to be able to help carry on his memory and his legacy with the Pinetop Perkins Foundation. Photo 2006 KBBF by Liz (BST: 3 national treasures to the Blues: Pinetop, Liz and David. ... The Berntsons serve on the Pinetop Perkins Foundation board. Check this wonderful non-profit.) See more
