Meet Paul, our Maintenance Manager. He was awarded with our Servant Leader for February and it could not be more deserving. Paul has a servants heart and goes above and beyond for our community and our residents. The relationships that he builds with our residents and their families is invaluable. As John Quincy Adams puts it, If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

Our Resident Spotlight this month is on Willia. Please enjoy her story below reflecting her amazing accomplishments and highlighting her astounding impact as a leader while we celebrate Black History Month! Willia is a native of Quitman, Texas and migrated to Wichita, Kansas with her husband Frank in 1961. As a devoted wife, mother and community leader she served as an educator for 36 years in Kansas. She was promoted to counselor, assistant principal, and junior high schoo...l principal when she retired in 1994. She moved and then served as an elementary principal to her second retirement in 1999. Willia is an adventurous, trailblazing woman who loved traveling, inspiring others and living life to the fullest. She has traveled to more than 6 countries and loved to drive across the United States bowling with her husband and enjoying state fairs. She took pride in being an accomplished black woman, strong enough to stand alone but humble and kind enough to invite and encourage others to join in her journey. Willia and her husband were inducted into the Wichita Black Educators Hall of Fame. As an educator, they overcame racial barriers during the Civil Rights Movements and became strong community leaders. Both are never forgetting their motto to "Help somebody as you pass their way." She was recognized as a member of the Elders Council, Willia and Frank opened doors for young educators with support, coaching, mentoring, and often a place to stay. Willia is known for telling others, "You can do whatever you set your mind to accomplish." There are so many things to learn and accomplish in the world. With God by your side, you can achieve the simplest and the most complicated tasks by believing in yourself and knowing that you can do it." Willia is a lifetime member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, The Links, Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Willia became a resident of the Brookdale Broken Arrow Community in 2018. Before her residency, she had lived in Wichita, KS for more than 60 years. She is loved by her 2 daughters Marisa(Kansas City, KS) and Myra (Tulsa, OK) and niece Pam and her spouse Tony (Tulsa, OK), 3 grandchildren. They call her "Minnie", Miriam, Maura, Mylan, 2 great-grand children Kenzington and Zen, and many family and friends across the country. See more
