Friendly reminder: keep all items at least 3 feet from space heaters, and don’t overload power strips. Do not leave animals unattended with any type of space heater that can be turned over and start a fire. Also be aware when useing lamps for heat in animal pens and dog houses. Always move dog houses out away from the house so if a fire starts it will not transfer to your home.

Comanche had a large grass fire south of town. Thanks to the help from surrounding departments!

The Comanche Fire Department is currently taking applications for volunteer firefighters. If you want to serve your community, please stop by the Comanche Fire Department to pick up an application and discuss the benefits and what it means to become a volunteer firefighter.

Comanche was asked to help out a neighboring area with a fire today. We’re here to help anyone and everyone if we’re needed.

As details become somewhat more clear regarding the upcoming winter weather events, we can narrow down the risk areas a little. The first event is expected to o...ccur mainly from pre-dawn Monday into the early afternoon. Rain and freezing rain will cover most of Oklahoma and north Texas. There will likely be some sleet, perhaps a little snow, in the far northwest part of Oklahoma. While there may be some adverse effects from ice accumulation anywhere near/northwest of I-44, the greatest chance of icy bridges/overpasses and power outages (trees still have leaves on them, so it takes a lot less ice to cause limbs to break) will be roughly from Elk City to Fairview/Enid to Blackwell and Medford. Ground temperatures remain fairly warm, so it appears unlikely that roads (other than bridges and overpasses) will become icy, except perhaps in the far northwest part of Oklahoma. After a decrease in rain/freezing rain/sleet late Monday, another surge of moisture is expected on Tuesday. This event will cover mostly the same region as Monday's, but there is more uncertainty regarding amounts and exact locations. After Tuesday, temperatures are expected to begin to rise again, reaching near the seasonal average next weekend.
