One of the very BEST places to start your Family Research - https://1940census.archives.gov/search/ The National Archives released the 1940 census to the public on April 2, 2012 after a mandatory 72-year waiting period. This website, designed and hosted by Archives.com, provides access to digital images of the census more than 3.8 million pages.... The 1940 census was taken in April 1940 (official date was April 1, though entries were recorded throughout early April). The Federal government requires a census to be taken once every ten years for the apportionment of members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The first census was taken in 1790.

Hello Friends! As Life has it 2020 has been a roller coaster of derailments and major life adjustments. Our sincerest regrets for the lack of posts and valuable tips. On to a restart of steady informational advice for your journey into your ancestral history!... Tip #1 - In order to have a "Clean" Tree AVOID the temptation to take other's information and incorporate it into your Tree. This can potentially corrupt your Tree and send you easily onto the wrong path. Tip #2 - Prior to accepting pre-populated 'Hints' (leafs) into your Tree make sure you can Cross Verify the information. How do you 'Cross Verify'? ..... Are the Name, Dates and Locations correct by referring to records such as Draft Cards, Birth, Death, Census, Marriage or Obituaries? Our internal Rule prior to adding any Information/Record to a Tree is that we must be able to Cross Verify with 2 Sources. This may seem extreme BUT accepting a inaccurate record will corrupt your Tree. Essentially, having only verified records will allow you the opportunity to then go back over time and build more information as you expand into other generations which will add additional data points to use as references to validate the 'Hints" (records). Tip #3 WARNING!! Obituaries are NOT always accurate. Remind yourself that an Obituary is a 'story' that is being told by a loved one that is grieving and they usually do not have birth, marriage and military records to use as data points. This WARNING also applies to information on a Death Certificate - The information is provided by a loved one which is not necessarily accurate.
