Congratulations are in order for our Senior Research and Policy Associate Dr. Shinyoung Jeon. The American Educational Research Association’s Early Education and Child Development Special Interest Group honored Jeon with its 2021 Early Career Award. The award is given annually to an individual with an early and promising record as a researcher and scholar in the early childhood field.... Jeon’s work is primarily focused on three areas: longitudinal developmental trajectories of children from low-income families with a focus on resilience; impacts of early education intervention programs on developmental outcomes of children from low-income families; and teacher-parent partnerships and family engagement in early care and education. "Dr. Jeon is dedicated to examining the developmental trajectories of children from low-income families and their resilience processes in early childhood education programs. She focuses on family-program partnerships to identify effective strategies to maximize the contextual effects of home and early childhood education intervention programs on developmental outcomes of children from low-income families, said ECEI Director Diane Horm. Jeon has published 16 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals and given more than 30 presentations since 2017. She has an impressive list of publications and presentations at important, top-tier venues that is more characteristic of someone with more years of experience. Her work with Tulsa’s local early childhood programs demonstrates that she is able to analyze ‘real-world’ data on young children and programs and generate findings and actionable recommendations that the program can really use, Horm said.
