Giving Up Deception | Giving Up part 4 | New Hope UMC God placed us into the middle of a garden of abundance and plenty with one rule: you can eat of any fruit, except for the fruit of one particular tree. But humanity was fooled by a snake that spit venomous lies; we listened to a voice other than the voice of God, and so we were deceived into eating that very fruit, and it was then that we sought the darkness, hiding... from God, deceiving one another, deceiving ourselves. Later, a people who were wandering through the wilderness were surrounded once again by venomous snakes. And so God had Moses lift up an image of a snake on a stick, so that anyone who was bitten could look upon the image and live. And Jesus said that he too must be lifted up on the cross, so that those still suffering the venom of the serpent’s deceit could look upon Christ and live.
