Despite the small amount of precipitation some of us received we are still predicted to hit SEVERE Fire Danger today. Please be careful with any activity that might spark a grassfire.

Remember to set your clocks ahead for Daylight Saving Time starting at 2AM tonight! It's also a good time to change your batteries in your smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors! #DaylightSavingTime

We may not meet the criteria of High Fire Danger over the next few days with the higher humidity however we are currently predicted to have sustained winds of 1...5+ mph for about the next 56 hours. We may see gusts as high as 40-45mph. If a fire does get established in these winds it is going to be difficult to control. We are asking everyone to use caution with any activity that could spark a wildfire. See more

Our firefighter’s responded to multiple controlled burns that got out of control yesterday. Today’s fire danger will be slightly higher with more sustained winds. Please give our firefighters a break and avoid burning today.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) will be conducting a large prescribed burn on the Hickory Creek Wildlife Management Area today. You wil...l notice a large area of smoke between Marietta and Lake Murray. Prescribed fire refers to the controlled application of fire to wildland ecosystems under specified environmental conditions that help restore health to fire-adapted environments. By reducing hazardous fuel accumulations on the forest floor, encouraging the new growth of native vegetation, and maintaining the many plant and animal species whose habitats depend on periodic fire, prescribed burning helps reduce the catastrophic damage of wildfire on our lands and surrounding communities. Prescribed fire is one of the most effective tools we have in preventing the outbreak and spread of wildfires. But because prescribed fire is fire, fire management experts must be extremely careful in planning and executing a prescribed fire.
