Utility update, February 20th, 2021: The City of Shawnee is now under a precautionary boil advisory. Boil your water at a hard, rolling boil for at least one m...inute before consumption, drinking, use in food preparation (including baby formula), brushing teeth, making ice, wound care, and bathing infants who may ingest the water, or use another drinking water source such as bottled water until the tap water is safe to drink again. Throughout the cold temperatures, our plant has used more than a months supply of certain chemicals used in our treatment process. During the past several days, we have received a limited emergency supply of chemicals and plant staff have diligently been working with suppliers to replenish our stock. Currently, we are critically low on the necessary chemicals required to properly treat our water supply. Because of the high demand, chemical suppliers are experiencing challenges replenishing our plant chemical supply. We will provide additional guidance to the public as the situation evolves.

The Executive Committee has approved the use of the Multi-Purpose Building in Shawnee and the Little Axe Health Center as emergency warming shelters IF power ou...tages occur. As of right now, the threat of this storm is brutal cold temperatures and hazardous roads. IF the shelters are opened, we will post information here and on the website. We know tribal members are worried about staying warm. Tribal members that are having trouble with their heaters not working properly can call Diane Ponkilla at (405) 617-4105. If you begin to experience electrical issues i.e. power outages, please call our Winter Weather Call Line at (405) 740-1562. We will continue to watch this storm and assess the situation and tribal member needs. Be sure to pass this information along to tribal members who don't use social media. The City of Shawnee is advising residents to take necessary steps now to prepare your home, vehicles, pets/livestock, and other possessions for the winters stor...ms. The Salvation Army Shelter (200 E 9th st) is operating 24 hrs and following their inclement weather protocol not turning anyone away. In addition, they are also taking donations and are requesting twin size blankets. In the event of significant power outages, the City of Shawnee will open a warming station at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center conference building.
