I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the wor...k which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives. Under the impulse of such thoughts, the nobility of the occupation thrills us and stimulates us to deeds of daring, even of supreme sacrifice. Edward F. Evening thoughts from Zechariah’s Father... In January of 2019, I created this Facebook page as a way to support my son and to help provide for him a platform t...o share his mission. From Day 1, this idea to honor our fallen by Running was his goal. Since he set out on this journey, we have experienced minimal backlash from anti First Responder groups, and for that we feel blessed. Today, unfortunately, we were forced to ban over 100 people who either verbally assaulted / cyber bullied our son or shared anti-police nonsense in response to our sons post. Needless to say, it bothered us. Not in a way that brought us fear, but in a way that reminded us just how far off this nation has become in the battle of good vs. evil. When our nation has gotten to a point to where harassing an 11-year old who runs to honor fallen First Responders is okay, it’s clear we have a problem. And not just a moral problem, but a spiritual problem. While we are constantly reminded of the negativity in the world, moments like these photos included in this post are clear reminders to us that Zechariah is part of what is good in the world. We truly believe this mission was a calling that the Lord put on our sons heart. His name, Zechariah, is Hebrew for God has Remembered, and we find it to be no coincidence that he is using his running and speaking abilities as a way to remember our fallen, the same way God remembers us all. Whether it be hugging the brother of a fallen Investigator, embracing the wife of a fallen Lieutenant, providing support to the parents of a fallen Fire Captain or giving a high five to an Injured First Responder Grant recipient, Zechariah has set out on a mission to spread love, comfort and healing to those who need it the most. Knowing the impact his efforts continue to make, we as parents will not let the negativity interfere with the mission that God has called our son to complete. Do we worry about Zechariah? Of course we do. Any parent would. But we also fully support him and will continue to do so regardless of the negativity that will occasionally creep it’s way into this page. To the nearly 200,000 people who have taken our son in as their own and continuously show him support and love, thank you. It truly means so, so much to both my wife and I to see the outpouring of love and support you continue to show Zechariah. It also means the world to Zechariah. It’s humbling to see just how many lives our son has touched. Every parent wants to see their kids succeed and make a positive impact in the world. It’s clear to us, more than ever, that Zechariah is already doing that at just 11-years old. To those who continue to stand with him... thank you. Days like today, that support means so, so much. You all pick our family up when we feel down, and we are truly blessed to see and feel all the support from across this nation. Thank you. May God Bless you all!
