Meet Meagan Carpenter, class president of the Memorial Class of 2020, and the recipient of a Charger Pride scholarship. Meagan was an extremely active student ...at Memorial, and it is immediately evident that she was a leader in her time there. As noted above, she was senior class president (in her photo see the special sash she wore at commencement). She was also junior class vice president and captain of the volleyball team as a senior. Meagan played volleyball all four years at Memorialalong with four years of track and two years of cross-country. She credits those sports with teaching her the value of discipline and teamwork. Meagan took several AP classes at Memorial and graduated fourth in her class. Meagan is now a freshman at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, where she is majoring in criminal justice with the goal of becoming a police officer. Missouri State offers a police academy as part of its undergraduate studiesa program that entails its own 600-hour curriculum. Meagan describes it as a rigorous workload with a demanding schedule that includes physical requirements. Her long-term goal is to become a detective. It would be inspiring to become a female detective, she told us. Meagan’s AP government teacher told her she would be proud to be pulled over by her. Meagan says she had a great first semester at Missouri SouthernI loved all of my teachers and classes and was excited to get an early start on my criminal justice classes. She says second semester is going very well too. Well done, Meagan. Congratulations on all your accomplishments at Memorial, and all the very best to you at Missouri Southern and beyond.
