PSA! With the temps getting into the 100's, this is a few things you should do to keep your home more comfortable and cool. 1- close blinds, 2- make sure your filter is clean (use only the fiberglass kind, not the pleated type), keep your thermostat set a little higher than normal (an ac unit is not designed to cool to 68 when it is 115 heat index), keep lights off when not needed, use fans when needed for extra cooling, wash outdoor coils on a/c, use exhaust fans in bathroo...m when showering( this will remove humidity from the home), keep garage doors closed ( some interior garage walls are not insulated in this area. keeping the garage door closed adds a little more insulation), and the most important part is make sure all vents in your home are open! A lot of people have the idea that closing off rooms will save money. Your a/c is designed to cool so many sq ft. Most interior walls are not insulated and when you shut off vents in unused rooms, the heat is allowed to come into the home and straight through the uninsulated walls.
