ATTENTION ALL OKLAHOMA LICENSEES: Once again legislation is swinging an ax at our industry with partial deregulation. SB1166 by Bergstrom & HB3091 by Pittman Both bills have the identical language.... Your scope of practice for whatever license you hold in this industry, is defined by its I definition in the law. If something is not within your scope of practice, you cannot not do it legally under you license. These bills are altering those definitions of Barbering & Cosmetology. This is what is being removed from the definition of BARBERING: treatment with oils, creams, lotions or other preparations, SHAMPOOING, applying cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, powders, oils, clays or lotions to scalp, face, neck or upper part of the body. This is what is being removed from the definition of COSMETOLOGY: Cleaning, curling, dressing, styling, waving These bills remove the very foundation & core of EVERYTHING we do in this industry. Both bills will be read on their respective floors this Monday, February 3. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE & YOUR SENATOR NOW! This is URGENT! Let your voices be heard & take a stand for our industry! We have to be united in this effort & EVERYONE do their part. Legislators want to hear from their constituents. You are the ones who put them in office to work for you! If you do not know who your legislators are go to: www.ok.gov & click on ‘find my legislator’. All you need to do is put in your address and it will find your legislators. Please look up the bills and read them. There are other things in the bills that are not acceptable but the above mentioned are the most detrimental to who we are & what we do! When we stand, we stand like GIANTS! When we walk, we walk like LIONS! Respectfully, Sherry G. Lewelling
