George Cemetery

Hello! We are so excited to share that we have formally organized the George Cemetery Association, a Not For Profit Corporation. The George Cemetery at 339743 E 780 Rd in Tryon OK was originally surveyed in 1913. We find some folks laid to rest there even earlier than that! Over the years Jean McClain and later Jack Vassar took responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep on the place. Several people in the Perkins Tryon area - like Woodrow Wilson and Frank Breeden - hel...ped with the mowing and upkeep. In researching last fall, I discovered that the land was donated, the surveying was done in 1913, but I could not find where any organization had been formally created and the cemetery was not in the cemetery books at the courthouse. As locals who have family members laid to rest there, to address some confusion, and to be able to care for the ongoing maintenance, we have joined together to care for this quaint little cemetery. We hope if you have loved ones there and/or are a part of our community that you will be interested and willing to help from time to time. We will try to use this avenue to keep you updated on activities and, once we get some basic things set in place, we will post information on who to contact for issues, concerns, burial plots, etc. Thank You!
