Snow, snow, go away! And don’t return for many, many days!

The IRS is starting a later than usual this year to deal with processing income tax returns. Due to the extra burden of the stimulus checks the IRS got to deal with, I would expect them to send out refunds slower than usual this year. . . . Regardless, if you receive a refund, it may be an opportunity to enable you to deal with some legal issue you have been contemplating for a while. 20 Years Experience https://joelkmitchell.com Two Tulsa-Area Office Locations... What does ANTITRUST mean? . . . What is a monopoly exactly? These terms were popular in the days of Theodore Roosevelt's presidency. You haven't heard them much since then, but maybe just a little in terms of Microsoft and AT&T in the early 2000's. Due to recent big acquisitions and some overreaching by big-tech companies, #Antitrust should be a hot topic for the next few years. You should hear about it in terms of its application to Google [who owns Spotify and YouTube an...d whose software controls most of your cell phones and who dominates online searches] and Amazon.com, maybe Facebook and Twitter, and possibly even the likes of Apple and Microsoft. Antitrust is not aligned with any one political party. Since it interferes with 'free markets' it should be by nature a left-wing tool, although conservative yet 'populist' Presidents like the one you just had and the aforementioned Teddy Roosevelt praised it at times. Regardless of your political party if you want to have 'choice' and some sort of freedom of speech, educate yourself on AntiTrust and, when you feel like complaining to your government representatives, educate them too. https://www.justice.gov/atr/antitrust-laws-and-you See more

Americans have a constitutional right to free speech. HOWEVER, I see that some people online here don't know what that means. The First Amendment protects individuals from government censorship, BUT Facebook, Twitter, and the like are private companies. While they claim to have a policy to allow free speech because they are so large and influential, social-media sites CAN censor what people post on their websites as they see fit due to the fact that they are private compani...es and not the government. I'm seeing a growing number of instances of censorship on these social media sites and platforms . I'm seeing that these sites and platforms are heavily involved in politics, and I'm not talking about these various little left-wing, right-wing, down-south wing and up-in-the-stars wing 'groups' where people of like minds can give their rants and spills--because that IS allowing free speech. Rather, I am referring to what I have seen and experienced first-hand in the banning of certain advertisements and posts; and, depending on what the platform is, that banning at the platform's discretion obviously appears to be based on the political slant or ideology of that platform. There needs to be some lines drawn in stone, not in the sand. I would argue for new legislation to be enacted recognizing these social media platforms as public, like government institutions, because so much of the public is on there and they are so enormous and influential. If that doesn't happen, something else will. Regulations upon these big-tech social-media platforms will happen; it is inevitable--and if we need to slightly extend the scope of what 'hate speech' exceptions there are to having free speech in the process, so be it if is very clearly defined and saves free speech as a whole. Constitutional law may not be my forte, but I did make an "A" in it in law school many, many moons ago. Please pardon my not-political-but-stating-the-obvious post. https://JoelKMitchell.com
