Kay County Sheriff's Office 05.05.2021

In the early morning hours of Sunday April 4, 2021, the Kay County Sheriff’s Office was called to an address in reference to a burglary in progress. Deputies arrived and spoke with the home owner who stated that several firearms and over 1000 rounds of ammunition had been stolen. The home owner then stated the suspect had gotten away when the home owner confronted them prior to the deputy’s arrival. Several KSO deputies immediately started a search in the area for the susp...ect based on the limited description given. KSO investigators canvassed the area over the next few days. Through good work and persistence KSO and PCPD developed leads that took them to an address in Ponca City on Tuesday evening. KSO and PCPD converged on a Ponca City apartment that ended with a search warrant and arrest of 3 Kay County residents staying in the apartment. The subjects, 2 male and 1 female are facing multiple charges either separately or together, which do include but are not limited to: Burglary 2, Possession of stolen property, Knowingly concealing stolen property, Possession of Illegal firearms, Possession of Firearm that has the serial number altered or destroyed, Possession of Firearms during the commission of Felony, Possession of CDS with intent to distribute, Illegal cultivation of marijuana, Maintaining a dwelling where CDS is kept or sold and Conspiracy to commit a felony. This investigation is still pending. Great work KSO and PCPD!! SG See more

PSA: the latest in scams is now someone will call you and say that they have mistakenly sent you money thru a payment app on your phone. They will ask you to send it back to them. It is being said that once you agree to send it back they reverse or cancel their ORIGINAL transaction and you are out the money you send them. I would suggest that if this happens, let them cancel the transaction on their end period. DO NOT SENT PEOPLE MONEY. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR INFO!!

Driving tips: 1. Ever notice how some people stop pretty far back from a railroad crossing if they are first in line? A main reason is to leave plenty of room in case someone hits them from behind. If that happens then the force of the collision may not push them into the train if they are back far enough. 2. When making a legal pass of another vehicle at highway speed try to not merge back into your lane until you can see the entire front of the car you passed in your rear...view mirror. This ensures that you have left sufficient room between you. This is especially true for large vehicles and semi trucks. If this can not be done safely THEN PLEASE DONT PASS! These tips save lives. Tragically we have seen them not used. SG

Some of you may not be aware, but on Monday of this week we received a call for assistance from the Tonkawa Police Department. The call came in reference to the Bomb Threat and Active Shooter threat that was issued to the Tonkawa NOC College Campus. The Kay County Sheriff's Office never hesitated to activate all Kay County Deputies to assist. After I handled my responsibilities here at the office for that type of emergency I went straight to the college. What I observed ...at the college was to say the least, a finely tuned machine about to be put into operation. Because of my late arrival (maybe 15 min behind everyone else), I walked in to a sea of Law Enforcement officers already in the process of readying themselves for a long day. I observed officers and deputies donning their extra equipment, First Aid kits and other items. I also observed contact teams and search teams being formed, plans being made, communications being established and a lot of things that only Law Enforcement could appreciate. But most importantly, I observed many different uniforms and patches working together putting themselves into teams to best work the problem. There were no jurisdictional differences, no "who is in charge" getting in the way of the job that was waiting for them. I watched each of them set out on their respective assignments either to report that they "had" or "had not" found anything. At the end of the day there obviously was nothing found, which is what we wanted, but nonetheless those professionals completed the task without reservation. As the Undersheriff of Kay County I can tell you that I was very proud to be associated with that group of men and women working together for the greater good, which on that day was making sure that campus was safe and secure. If you have a family member that attends or works there you should know that those men were there that day to make sure your family member would be safe. Thank you Tonkawa Police Dept, Blackwell Police Dept, Tonkawa Fire Dept, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, District 8 Task Force and of course the Finest Deputies and dispatchers in the state who are none other than The Kay County dispatchers and The Kay County Sheriff's Deputies! Your dedication and training is second to none!! Excellent job!! SG See more

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. this morning, the Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa was alerted to an emergency situation. Faculty, staff, students and visitors were evacuated because of a potential threat to safety. The Kay County Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Blackwell Police Department, 8th District Attorneys Office and the OSBI were requested to assist the Tonkawa Police Department with the incident. Emergency ...responders, fire personnel, and rescue officers were on campus investigating, as well. Claims of bombs on campus and active shooters on campus were investigated. Thorough searches of Campus buildings have been completed. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad arrived and cleared the area using bomb detecting K9’s. Students and faculty were allowed to resume normal operations at 5 p.m. this evening. The FBI was contacted and is investigating the possible origin of the threat to Northern Oklahoma College and numerous other facilities around the state.
