Join Kids' Space Child Advocacy Center, CASA for Children, and other area agencies as we release flowers into the Honor Heights Pond in honor of the hundreds of children served by area agencies as a result of child abuse & neglect. This will also be a great opportunity to talk with agency staff members and officials to learn more about how you can help abused & neglected children right here in your community through prevention, awareness, & advocacy! If you ordered a shirt for the event, they are at Kids’ Space ready to be picked up! We’ll be open until 4.
Victims of crime can face a lot of expenses during the investigation, prosecution, and healing processes. Each state has a compensation program to help offset those costs. The Crime Victims Fund was established by the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) of 1984. The Fund is financed by fines and penalties paid by convicted federal offenders, not from tax dollars. To learn more about Oklahoma's Crime Victims Compensation Fund and to apply online, visit https://www.okvictimscomp.com... #nationalcrimevictimsrightsweek #voca #victimsofcrimeact #crimevictimsfund @OJPOVC

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) creates an opportunity for communities to come together and reflect on the history of crime victims’ rights. The landmarks in victims’ rights and services outline this progress from 1965 to the present by highlighting the creation and growth of local, state, and national victim service organizations; the passage of key federal and state legislation; notable court decisions; groundbreaking reports and studies; and... advances in victim assistance approaches. #nationalcrimevictimsrightsweek #childadvocacycenter #childadvocacy #victimsrightslegislation
Children are not blank coloring sheets we get to color however we want. They are influenced by genetics and environment to become who they are. Pour love into your children no matter who they are, who they love, or the decisions they make. The most important thing you can do for your child is to love and support them unconditionally and help them on their journey. #childadvocacy #childadvocacycenter #loveyourchildren #supportyourchildren
"I am an overcomer. My future is about me." Some days at Kids' Space we get to celebrate. Happy Friday!
We want every family who comes to our center that we are concerned about their specific case. We take this work personally and are honored that it shows. #traumainformedcare #traumainformedeverything #childadvocacy #childadvocacycenter
Today kicks off National Crime Victims' Rights Week. Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is celebrated every year in April. This week is dedicated to learn about victimization, the effect victimization has on individuals, families, friends and the community, and to promote laws, policies, and programs to help victims of crime. Every year, thousands of communities across the nation honor the dedication of those before us that established victim rights and renew c...ommitment to guarantee that all victims have the rights and services they need to recover from crime. Victim Support Services participates in marches, tree-planting ceremonies, and many other activities that are held each year to promote victims’ rights and to honor crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf. #crimevictimsrightsweek #childadvocacycenter #childadvocacy @OJPOVC
A source of support and empowerment for victims of crime is knowing their rights. If you have questions about victims' rights, visit https://victimlaw.org/victimlaw/ . You can search for specific rights by jurisdiction, including state, national, and tribal jurisdictions. #victimsrights #nationalcrimevictimsrightsweek #childadvocacycenter #childadvocacycenter
It's our favorite cat to post about on #caturday !! Winston sits wherever he wants. Sometimes we walk into a room and find him somewhere completely random. #officecat #sirwinstonpurhill
T-shirts are in! If you ordered a shirt, you can pick them up from the Kids' Space office at 400 Court St until 4pm today. If you can't make it by today, we will be back Monday-Friday 9-4 and can pick them up anytime during office hours.
Our final and possibly most important type of alternative discipline is to establish healthy rules and boundaries. Like verbal reasoning, this alternative should be paired with all other discipline styles. It is important for you children to know the expectations you have for them. We cannot expect them to follow rules if they do not know what those rules are. In addition, your child needs to know ahead of time what the consequence is for breaking a rule. The consequences ...may vary depending on the rule, so be sure your child knows the differences. Teach your children the rules and boundaries in every day conversations and as they come up. It is a hefty order to discuss every possible rule and consequence at once. Not to mention, they can't be expected to remember all that information if it is given to them only one time and in that manner. Be sure to repeat these rules and boundaries regularly so your child has a good grasp of them. #rulesandboundaries #alternativediscipline #childabuseawarenessmonth #childadvocacy #childadvocacycenter
We try to treat everyone who comes through the Kids' Space doors with kindness. Everyone is going through something and that act of kindness could change their day. #kindness #actofkindness #actsofkindness #traumainformedeverything
Today is National High Five Day! Give your coworker, friend, or dog a high five today! High five-ing is also a good alternative for when your child doesn't feel like hugging someone. Grandma may insist on your kiddo hugging her neck, but it can be a learning opportunity for your family that your child's body is their body and they have to right to say no to any touches they don't want at any time. Remind Grandma (or whoever else) that it doesn't mean your child doesn't love them or may not want to hug them another time. #nationalhighfiveday #highfiveday #childadvocacy #childadvocacycenter
The fourth type of alternative discipline is time-outs. Allow your child to take a few minutes to calm down before discussing the misbehavior. It is beneficial to model this for your child by putting yourself in "time-out" when your emotions are running high. Of course, you don't have to say that you or they are going to "time-out". They may actually be more receptive to it if it is seen as a time to relax, breathe, and regain control of their emotions. You and your chil...d could even design a space together in the home (not during a time of conflict) that is relaxing for them to take their "time-out" in. It could be a soft space with blankets and pillows and could have items to help them calm down, such as books, fidget toys, or calming music. After they are finished calming down (time-out periods should be no longer than one minute per year of age), you and your child can have a discussion about their behaviors that led to time-out and what a more appropriate behavior would have been in that situation. #timeout #alternativediscipline #childabuseawarenessmonth #childadvocacy #childadvocacycenter
