New Yamaha GC1 in polished white just arrived!!
Check out Larsen repair technician Colter Weatherholtz honing his lathe operating skills making a tool for the shop!
Need to give a thank you to Dr. Jonathan Nichol for referring his student Alexis Seah to Don Thomas and Larsen Music's repair shop. Alexis is a current Doctoral candidate at Oklahoma University and has an unfortunate mishap with her Selmer Series III alto saxophone causing severe damage to the upper body, keys and multiple tone holes. Don disassembled the horn, repaired the damage and put the horn back playing condition. Alexis is thrilled to have her old friend back in order again!
Technician Don Thomas got to work on a Sherwood Master Model cornet this week. This horn was likely made in the 1930's-40's by Conn with satin silver plating. The owner of this horn got it from his grandfather and asked our Larsen shop to straighten dents, pull stuck slides and clean it up after sitting for many years. Check out the before and after pics!
Dow Dozier is a Marine veteran who spends part of his retirement time participating in a program called Bugles Across America buglesacrossamerica.org playing taps for veteran's funerals and performed at 55 funerals this past year donating his time, not mention travel expenses mostly to and from the military cemetery by Ft. Sill/ Lawton. Mr. Dozier brought his trumpet in with a missing part this week and we were able to donate a newer instrument for his noble purpose. Technician Don Thomas had just finished cleaning and straightening dents on this silver Conn trumpet which had been donated to Larsen. It is a perfect match for Mr. Dozier to provide his talents for his fellow veterans!
Thanks to another great job by Don Thomas (the technician at Larsen Music Co.) my ‘45 Martin Committee Trumpet and ‘48 Martin Committee Cornet have never looked or sounded better! Coming soon to a performance venue near you! The Savoy Trio and A Shade of Blue
Shout out to local musician Jerry Scott of The Savoy Trio for entrusting our repair shop with his vintage 1947 Martin Committee trumpet. Our repair tech Don Thomas was able to address his concerns of poor response and intonation by fixing a prior repair job where incorrect diameter tubing was used on the main tuning slide creating an obstruction in the leadpipe. Fortunately Jerry still had the original broken tubing pieces which Don slightly modified and used to put the horn back to original condition. Next on Jerry's list is to have Don sonic clean his vintage Martin Committee cornet!
