Seems like every election these days is critical. This coming Tuesday, there is an election for 1 Durant City Council position and it is critically important. Kari Walker contacted both candidates with 3 questions. Please read. Next Tuesday, April 6, is Durant City Council election. There is 1 seat that will have an election.... I don’t live in the city limits, but I do own a business within city limits. So the city council election is important to me. I recently asked each candidate to answer 3 questions. Below are their responses. 1. Why did you decide to run for office? 2. What is your top priority if elected? 3. What is another issue you hope to address if elected? ****************************************** Below is Jerry Tomlinson’s responses: # 1 .... I decided to run for re-election for several reasons.... I still have the desire and interest to serve our citizens... another is that I think that experience matters and will serve me and our citizens well as matters come before council for consideration .... another reason is that I bring a history of a common sense approach to all matters that come before the council .... another is that I fully understand how our Council-manager form of government works and not the last but one of importance is that I bring an objective not subjective approach and one of following the rule of our laws to all of the council considerations . # 2 ... To choose a top priority is tough but from the drought season of 2011 , I recall our fresh water supply source for our city being in jeopardy... I have been an advocate for not only protecting our water and sources but for looking into other options as well... this will continue to be a priority for me . # 3 .... Infrastructure needs will always be at the forefront of every city and our city is no exception.... street improvements, Water and waste water capacities and compliance and continuing to provide the best in the state of police and fire protection will always be daily considerations . ****************************************** Below was Humphrey Miller’s response: I think I will pass on them. Not being disrespectful in any way. If people want to sit down and talk to me I will meet with them anywhere for a discussion. I have been in meetings with people all week and taking to them. They all seem to be ready for a change and tell me I have they’re support. Thanks for the offer.
