Holy Week - Tuesday The steps of Jesus on a very busy Tuesday are recorded in Matthew 21:2326:5, Mark 11:2014:11, Luke 20:122:6, and John 12:2050. There is so much that happened that I again urge you to read the scriptures and let the Lord speak to you what He most wants you to hear in the passages. Jesus shared many parables, answered questions about taxes and marriage, but the one that always sticks out to me is what He declares the greatest of commandments. Mark 12:28... Now a certain religious scholar overheard them debating. When he saw how beautifully Jesus answered all their questions, he posed one of his own, and asked him, Teacher, which commandment is the greatest of all?29 Jesus answered him, The most important of all the commandments is this: ‘The Lord Yahweh, our God, is one!’30 You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment. 31 And the second is this: ‘You must love your neighbor in the same way you love yourself.’ You will never find a greater commandment than these. In the last days of His life, Jesus wanted us to remember what was most important...LOVE! He came because of it, died to show it, rose to announce it, and sent the Holy Spirit to continue it! Today, I encourage you to examine the way you let the love of God flow through you. Not just to those around us that make it easy, but to those who make us cling to the Father for help in loving them well!

Holy Week - Monday After the excitement of Palm Sunday and the triumphant entry into Jerusalem the scripture tells us that Jesus spent the night in nearby Bethany. I can just imagine the confusion the disciples were dealing with when they lay down that night. Jesus had warned them (Mt 20:17-19) before they left for Jerusalem that He would be handed over to the religious leaders to be sentenced and executed; instead, they were met with a parade. Some scholars believe they sta...yed with Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. I have a hard time believing that because Mark says that when they left Bethany in the morning Jesus was feeling hungry Mary and Martha would have never let that happen. As they were traveling back to Jerusalem, Jesus was indeed hungry, saw a fig tree, and cursed it when there was no fruit to eat. There are a few kinks in the timeline here that believers and atheists alike have debated and probably will until the second coming. While some believe the fig tree was cursed and died immediately, others believe it wasn’t until the next day that it withered. Likewise, there is some debate regarding Jesus shaking things up at the temple and turning over the tables. These questions are not asking whether or not the events happened, rather the exact timing of when they happened. We all know the stories of the fig tree and Jesus overturning the tables in the Temple, but I encourage you to read them today and ask the Lord to speak to you as you do. I also encourage you today to ask the Lord what you can clear out of your house, car, workspace, etc., as a simple way of honoring the activities of Jesus on the Monday before His Death and Resurrection. The Cursing of the Fig Tree (Mt 21:18-19, Mk 11:12-14) Jesus Cleanses the Temple (Mt 21:12-17, Mk 11:15-19)
