Literacy Link of Midwest City OK 26.04.2021

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) has awarded a $5,000 CARES Act Digital Inclusion Grant to Literacy Link. Literacy Link is one of 50 institutions to receive the grant from ODL courtesy of the Federal CARES Act and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. A total of $290,000 was distributed to public and tribal libraries, cultural centers, museums, and literacy programs to improve digital access during the COVID pandemic and beyond. John Amicon, Literacy Link P...rogram Director said the funding will be used to purchase six touch-screen laptops with software, installation, and one-year hot spots. This upgrade will greatly expand the digital access for students and tutors, and provide possible experiences for distance learning and literacy opportunities for students and tutors. Literacy Link has space within the Midwest City library that consists of an office for the program director, conference tables, study carrels, and a reading resource library for tutors and students. Hours for Literacy Link coincide with those of the library. Free one-on-one tutoring based on the needs of each individual student is available. This funding can make a difference to the communities Literacy Link serves in Eastern Oklahoma County. We would like to thank the Oklahoma senators and representatives who voted in support of the CARES Act.

Literacy Link received a technology grant dedicated to purchase of a touch-screen computer for student assessment. This purchase of technology was made possible thanks to a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries with federal funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. This touch-screen computer alleviates stress for prospective student test takers who are not familiar with computer operation.
