ES Unik Lil Starlite aka Lakota loping partially through the pattern learning to use her hind end to gather up around the barrels. Keeping the hind quarters up under the horse will help teach them how to sit, rate and keep the hind end from flying out causing the horse to want to cross fire on the back side. This will help cut time on the barrel from them over shooting the barrel, trying to blow off the backside and help keep perfect form around the barrel for your horse.

Very well written article! Also when you have a horse riding especially a young one with its head down or lower at point of the shoulder they become more relaxed, able to think, in other words more teachable. They learn to use their body better, their foot placement is more accurate on the ground. A horse that rides with its head held up or looking up constantly can’t move its shoulders, legs or properly place its feet. It short strides, its walk becomes shuffled and it can... actually cause joint issues in the end. A trainer that has a horse ride with its head low isn’t doing it because it’s training it too what a lot of riders don’t think is horses actually will find it much more relaxing and enjoyable to ride with its head lowered. Watch a horse walk around a pasture, is it walking with its head straight up in the air? Is it being more reactive? Is it level headed and walking with a longer stride? Is it being more relaxed? Really good things to think about.

To a trainer sometimes the most beautiful thing about a horse isn’t just the wind in its mane or the sunshine on it back. Sometimes the most beautiful thing about a horse is the language of its body movement. The movement of each muscle, the landing of each foot in proper placement, the arch of the neck in correct balance. Just the shear raw power of the horse and the amazing sculpting you can create with one with the right training. ... For a trainer when they receive a young horse it’s like getting a blank canvas and they get to be the Picasso of the arena and create something of pure magic from the ground to the saddle it’s incredible to see the time and ability of creation that goes into these horses. So next time when you ride your horse look at the horse from a different stance. What do you see? You may just be looking at a masterpiece.
