Let’s talk about pressure. Deeper is not always better. Working with the body’s tolerances is the most effective way to get the muscle mass to relax. Pressure in a massage is relative, to the client and the therapist. It can mean different things to every person. Some peoples deep tissue is another persons medium pressure. If someone is having a stressful day they may not be able to take the same amount of pressure. The deeper the massage does not equate the most effective ...massage. It also does not mean it is the most beneficial massage. In my practice I take a strategic approach to pressure. Certain muscles or body parts need more pressure to get the muscle mass to release, others muscles take less. Different factors can play a part in this as well: exercise, hydration, caffeine intake and stress can all play a part in if a muscle will properly release. Some body parts tolerate more pressure and some do not. If the therapist can get the muscle mass to relax or release with less pressure the body doesn’t activate as much of an inflammation response. If they are unable to get the muscle to relax and more pressure is warranted, the therapist can utilize more pressure because they did not initiate the body’s inflammation response. Working with the body’s tolerances is the most effective way to get the muscle mass to relax. Deeper is not always better. Too much pressure can actually cause damage to the tissue. If the body’s inflammation response is activated and the therapist ignores it the body immediately responds by creating scar tissue. It is protecting its self. This causes more restrictions in the muscle which is the opposite of your, and the therapists goals. When I use heavy pressure on a client it is purposeful I do not treat their body as a whole with deep pressure. The body’s tolerances may not be your minds tolerances. Deeper is not necessarily better. If you have a well educated therapist communicate your goals and trust their knowledge. Communication should always open.

Happy Tuesday everyone! I wanted to post a policy reminder to answer any questions on cancellations or no shows. Have a great week! Please arrive for your scheduled appointment on time. If you are running late please text me and let me know. If you are unable to attend your appointment please notify me in advance (preferably at least 24 hours before). I allow a 15 minute grace period for tardiness. If the tardiness exceeds 15 minutes the appointment is forfeited and is mark...ed as a no show. If the client is a no show the missed appointment must be paid in full before another appointment can be scheduled. I try to be as understanding as possible. I know things come up last minute, and I try to work with people as much as I can. However please respect my time by notifying me if you are unable to attend an appointment. I have a list of people who I can fill in for cancellations. See more

Muscle therapy isn’t just for your muscles, everything in our body works together. It is a chain reaction. If one thing is under stress other systems are under stress as well. Take care of your body as a whole, we only get one! Self care goes a long way.
