Waving goodbye to 2020... From all of us at Mike Cunningham Investments, Happy New Year!

It takes them a while to jog their memory, but Mike and Steve eventually remember what makes December 24th so special. Happy early birthday, Donna Cox!

Office dog (or office reindeer?) Ella wants to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Our office will be closed all day on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but we will be back in the office on Monday the 28th!

I think we are going to be stronger. I know there are many reasons to fear. Politics. Global countries sparring. Government debt. Likely inflation (prices going up at the grocery). Mounting student debt. Family and friends who have died of COVID. A society which is more mentally and emotionally unstable, based on the anxieties of 2020. Think about a photograph that has the focal point clearly in focus, while the background looks a bit fuzzy. The elements of fear a...re generally the things that are clearly in focus in the photograph in my mind’s eye. I am prone to fear. I am prone to focus on the things that feed my tendency toward fear. And yet, I am convinced that we are going to be stronger because of these things. Let me give an example. My youngest child has been doing school from home for three days each week. I could be disappointed about that. But rather, she has enjoyed playing in the neighborhood with her friends more than ever before. Will her academic growth be stunted? Maybe. But I can see some positives. I can see elements of health. I’m not minimizing the reality of difficulties that many face. I am not suggesting that government debt will evaporate. I’m not proposing that the road ahead will be characterized by rainbows, butterflies and ponies. In spite of difficulty (through it), I am choosing to believe that we will be stronger. I believe we will be more resilient. So, does that mean I will ignore hardship and difficulty? Will I simply put on a happy face in spite of difficult realities? No. It means that I will be mindful of what I allow to be in focus in my photograph. I will choose to focus on those elements of hope and positivity. The negative elements are still present, but they are a little fuzzy. I won’t ignore them. I will also not allow them to hold me captive. I’ll choose hope and positivity. I choose to believe that we will be stronger. And I look forward to living that way.
