Great news! My legislation, the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, just passed the Senate with a strong bipartisan vote of 86-14! This bill stands up for our troops, all Americans, and our democratic values!
Today, Senator Jack Reed and I announced the markup schedule for the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act. While we continue to address the coron...avirus, we still have a sworn duty to address the threats facing our nation. For the past 59 yearsin spite of any and all obstaclesthe Armed Services Committee has enacted a bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act. This year will be no different; the NDAA will be a priority. The pandemic just makes it all the more important that we care for our service members and their families, maintain mission readiness and continue modernizing and preparing for the future just as the National Defense Strategy urges. We’ve faced some unique challenges getting to markup this year, but, together with Senator Reed and the entire Armed Services Committee, in our traditional, bipartisan fashion, I am eager to move this year’s NDAA closer to enactment for the 60th straight year.
McAlester Army Ammunition Plant is doing its part to make sure the Nation and our Army win against COVID-19. MCAAP is using existing equipment to produce criti...cally-needed hand sanitizer and distribute it to points of need in support of the COVID-19 response while continuing to meet ammunition readiness for the Joint Force. The Army is conducting a change of mission to protect the force and the nation, and with this new mission, MCAAP continues to maintain ammunition readiness, while also fighting COVID-19 on all fronts. The Joint Munitions Command continues to assess how best to protect Soldiers, Civilians and their Families; maintain force readiness to meet global challenges; and provide support to the FEMA-lead national COVID-19 response. The production of hand sanitizer at MCAAP is one critical way MCAAP and JMC are supporting DoD’s COVID-19 efforts, said MCAAP Commander, COL Shane Upton. Defeating COVID-19 is the Army’s top priority and Army senior leaders are urging everyone to adhere to the latest CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus. The MCAAP team, in coordination with leadership at JMC and U.S. Army Materiel Command, is rapidly working to determine production requirements, and how best to distribute the hand sanitizer to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. #ProtectTheForce #ContainTheVirus #ExecuteTheMission #WinningMatter #JMC See more
