A recent study found that that surprise! our society has a bias against aging. When looking at post-op and presumably younger-looking images of the same wome...n seemed to score higher on things like social skills and likeability than their pre-op pictures. That strongly suggests that aging-related features are associated with less-than-desirable personality traits like anti-social behavior. Aging reverses positive dynamic expressions like smiling. When we smile, we bring our cheeks up and tighten certain facial muscles. When we age, our faces look like the opposite of a smile. The study found the same to be true of body contouring. People naturally assumed the post-op photos indicated the person was more fit, active, and in some cases, more fun. Snotty noses are just a signal that something is going on in the body. Knowing more about the signals can help you decide when you need medical intervention. C...olorless snot is normal. If your child is producing more than usual, they may have allergies or a mild cold. Stringy mucus is allergy mucus. Liquid-y mucus is viral mucus. If your child has whitish mucus, it also could be the start of a cold. If your child has white mucus for more than two weeks, is a teenager, develops sinus pain, fever, or other symptoms, they could be getting an infection. When your child has yellow snot, it's because the white blood cells are fighting off the infections. The good news is their body is doing what it should. The bad news: your child's probably getting sick and it may clear on its own, but if not, your child needs to pop into the clinic for an evaluation. When your child's snot is green, it means the white blood cells are working overtime to fight off their infection. Your child may need antibiotics to help fight off the infection. Other colors, such as pink or red may indicate irritated nasal passages. Very dark or black snot can indicate a fungal infection that requires immediate attention. Snot is normal and keeps the nose and nasal passages clean. When it’s unusual, we want you to come in for quick evaluation and treatment solutions.
