We know our teachers are heroes every year, but this complicated year required them to give even morewe are grateful for the countless hours they spent making it possible for us to remain in person all year! Mrs. Pewthers has taught middle school English at MVC for 13 years. She’s an accomplished writing teacher who has been recognized by the Institute for Excellence In Writing (IEW) as their national teacher of the year in the past. In fact, after she leaves us, she’ll be working for IEW as an educational consultant, so her impact on the writing lives of student will live on! She tells us, I will miss the interaction with my fellow faculty/staff who encouraged me daily in my wa...lk with Christ. I will miss supportive parents and watching students grow in their education and their walk with Christ. Her English department colleague Amber Drew says, Andrea has been a cornerstone to the English Department for over a decade. Her work with students in middle school and for a number of years through freshman year builds a strong foundation of essential reading and writing skills that are evident when they come to high school. She is patient and loving with her students in a way that only those blessed with the special gifts and abilities to teach middle school can be. I’m always inspired by her great systems, procedures, and games to help her students learn their material in meaningful ways. Andrea has been a mentor and friend to me during our shared time as Mingo, and I’m so appreciative of all she’s done to grow our departmental knowledge and support her English team. She will be dearly missed!
