Okeene Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet was held Thursday, April 29th at The Corner in Okeene. Over 100 were in attendance to enjoy a night of celebrating loc...al businesses. A Networking Mixer was held prior to the banquet and many enjoyed the chance to catch up with fellow business owners during this time. Award winners were announced and speeches were given about each recipient. Distinguished Citizen- Mike Dobrinski. State Representative for our district and fellow Chamber Board Member was praised for his dedication to local businesses and community members. His years of service are appreciated and noticed. We thank Mike Dobrinski for his love and service to the town of Okeene. Volunteer of the Year- Rae Dixon. Rae was praised for her drive to make Okeene a safe, better, and upgraded place for our children. There’s not a project that is too big for Rae, and she takes on the tasks without hesitation. From the playground upgrades and construction to the updated City Park, that was Rae! She is the perfect example of selflessness. Rae Dixon will continue to leave a legacy within the community that will be appreciated for MANY years to come! Businesses of the Year. Summers Health Services. The staff at our local nursing home worked tirelessly to protect residents during the Covid 19 pandemic. Doors were locked starting mid-March and the first positive case was not until November 25th. Rebecca Eldred and Dawn Hollander stepped up and went to extreme measures to protect staff and residents. Staff members were required to take on extra duties, hours, and stress and they did so without hesitation. Your dedication was noticed and we appreciate your dedication to our community! Okeene Hospital and Medical Clinic. Another business directly affected by the Covid 19 pandemic was our local hospital. Rural hospitals are becoming a rarity in this day but our hospital continues to push forward and grow! The vaccination for Covid 19 started and has been going full force with employees and staff working to make sure that the process moves smoothly. Shelly Dunham was also acknowledged for her years of work at the hospital. She has worked to keep our rural hospital growing and giving too notch medical care to our area. We wish Shelly a well deserved retirement! Local Legend- Jane Nusz Without a doubt, Mrs Nusz was the winner for this award. She was a dedicated, hardworking, forward thinking, ball of energy and fun. She was the woman you called when you wanted something DONE! She was a finisher and a pusher. She showed the students of Okeene what a leader looks like but would never accept the praise she deserved. A tearful speech was given by Heidi Walker where she outlined just a few of Jane’s numerous accomplishments. Jane’s daughter in law, Jenny Nusz, spoke on behalf of the family and encouraged everyone to be Jane meaning to leave an impact on others and the world when you leave. Sammi Cottrill spoke on how Jane’s energy was felt before she entered the room and that the events she left behind will always have that spot that will never be filled. She was a larger than life person that our community misses dearly. President, Sammi Cottrill, spoke on how during this pandemic that our community rallied together to support our small businesses. She encouraged members to reach out to the Chamber of Commerce for assistance and keep us updated on events within the community! We are always looking for ways to help our members and continue to grow this amazing community of Okeene!
