N40 Berries

Do you see it? That berry is lime green and tiny today, but give it a few weeks of sunshine and it will be as big as your thumb and dark purple! We anticipate opening the first part of June, but check back occasionally as we update this prediction.

As many of you may be aware, the last two years we have experienced some reduction in blackberry production due to late freezes, necessitating reduced open hours and days for picking. This spring we will be planting an additional 600 blackberry plants! We will be planting two new varieties recently released by the blackberry research and development program at the University of Arkansas: Caddo and Ponca. Caddo is a bit smaller than the big Natchez berries but larger than t...he smaller round, sweet Osage berries. Caddo is a sweet berry like Osage but ripens a few days earlier. Ponca is also a large/medium sized berry, but is even sweeter than Osage and ripens early along with Natchez. These two new varieties will add to our blackberry offerings in both ripening time and flavor. Bear in mind that while these new varieties will be planted this spring, they will not produce berries until the 2022 season. See more

Our FINAL open picking session for 2020 is Wednesday, July 15, 7 - 10 am or until picked out, whichever comes first. It's been a crazy year with late freezes, wild temperature fluctuations and ripening of fruit. We hope you have managed to enjoy a few blackberries and look forward to seeing you in 2021!

There are blackberries waiting for you to pick! We will be open at 7:00 am Saturday, July 11. The season will be over soon, but we currently have quite a lot of plump, ripe berries. Come join us. *This may be our last day of picking. We have berries that still need to ripen, but with the anticipated high temperatures it is possible that they burn rather than ripen.

Looking for a 4th of July treat? You still have time to get blackberries for that cobbler! We will be open Saturday July 4, 7-11 am OR until we get picked out (whichever comes first)! If you are are determined to get the best berries, we advise coming at 7. We don't like to shut the gate early, but when all the ripe berries have been picked, we have no choice. We will NOT be open Monday July 6.

Wednesday, July 1, the earliest risers will get the berries! We have some beautiful ripe berries as shown in this picture, just not enough for a full picking time. We will have the gate open from 7-8:30 am only. There are ripe berries in all 4 varieties. Will we be open July 4? We hope so but mother nature will dictate that.

Hudson ate all his ripe berries! He, like you, will have to wait a few days to pick more. Our blackberry canes need sunshine and time to ripen more berries. Yes.... we still have blackberries to pick and also a new batch of jam that will make your biscuits divine! This week we will be open Saturday June 27, 7-11 am (we had to close early because we were picked out ). Monday June 29, 6-8 pm ( IF we have enough ripe berries to pick) and Wednesday July 1, 7-10 am. Hope to see you soon!
