Women's History Month is a great opportunity to speak on how HIV and AIDS affect women in the United States. According to the CDC, women in age groups 25-44 mad...e up 51% of new cases reported in 2018 and 85% of that transmission was through heterosexual sex. To break it down even further, among newly diagnosed women in 2018, Black women made up 57% of the group. Education and advocacy for safer sex is paramount for women in our country, and all over the world. If you are a sexually active young person, please use condoms! Talk with your friends about it. Develop a plan before things get heated up. If you're not a young person but you have young people in your circle, talk with them about safer sex and the risks involved with unprotected sex both for STIs/STDs and for unwanted pregnancies. Information and communication are key to protecting women and our future generations.
