WHAT TO SAY INSTEAD OF "BE CAREFUL!" Most of us offer a "be careful!" out of genuine care and concern for our children. Unfortunately, this short phrase is les...s helpful than we think it is. "Be careful" is too vague for children - it doesn't give them insight as to what they should be looking out for. It also fails to teach problem solving skills, and can inadvertently encourage the child to be dependent on their parents instead of fostering awareness for their surroundings. Here are a few things we can say instead as we nurture our children and help foster caution and courage at the same time.
