Ranch hack: tired of spilling water on yourself in frigid weather carrying buckets of water? Put a garbage bag in your bucket, then fill it with water. Then tie... the top of the bag or tie twine around the top. No more wet pant legs or boots and it's even handy to haul inside your rig. Edited to add: I don't leave the bucket with the bag in it for my animals. It could be a choking hazard if they were to eat it and it pretty much freaks the calves out and they won't drink out of it anyway. I use this method to haul the water to another bucket that I fill from this bucket. I don't recommend using scented bags. It may smell nice to us in the garbage can, but I sure wouldn't want to drink out of it! Yes there are other options that may work better than this such as 5 gallon buckets with lids and water jugs. We've used those as well and they work great too. This is a quick hack for when you're 60+ miles from the nearest hardware/feed store and need to get your critters some water and don't have the time to take a drive to get new buckets or jugs. I'm hoping this will help make folks lives a little easier when many are dealing with weather that is uncharacteristic for their area. We hope everyone is staying safe and warm!
