Tulsa Pride 01.07.2021

Observing Pride has always been about remembrance. We remember Stonewall, we remember the AIDS epidemic, we remember The Pulse Nightclub, and we as the LGBTQ+ community must remember the impact of the Race Massacre upon this state. Out of remembrance and respect for The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, Tulsa Pride will be moving the parade and festival to the last weekend in June (June 25th - 27th). With respect for the lives lost, remembrance of the destruction of a thriving Black ...community, the refusal to reckon with our past, and the lasting impact of 100 years of denial, we decided to move our regular festival date. It is time the LGBTQ+ community commits itself to anti-racist work and focus on the sphere of intersectional issues. We acknowledge the disparities in our state and our communities. We are in a time of mass awakening, and during this time, we must heal the injustices and reconcile these past sins. With the rise of bold leaders, community activists, and movements to uncover truths that have been hidden and overlooked, movements to create a just change in institutions demanding we correct course to avoid further destruction that we are able to move forwards. The land we stand on and go about our day-to-day routines is drenched in the blood, tears, lost hopes, and dreams of a community. The Reckoning cannot be avoided, cannot be overlooked, cannot be ignored, and cannot be delayed. We know that we must stand up beside those who do not look like us, pray like us, or love like us. We must protect and defend those most vulnerable in our communities. It's in intersectional work where we find our common humanity. We, like the "Mother Road," the historic route 66, must take the journey to make connections, to bridge communities, to reconcile our dark past for a dynamic and prosperous future. This year Tulsa Pride will collaborate with the OKC Pride Alliance. We hope to celebrate pride all along the "Mother Road." The OKC Pride Alliance Parade will be at 10 am on Saturday, June 26th in downtown Oklahoma City, and The Tulsa Pride Parade will be at 6 pm in the Art Deco/East Village in downtown Tulsa. We hope this year's observance will emphasize the importance of healing, unity, and bridge our communities as we remember the Oklahoma tragedy of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. With the vaccine rollout, we are planning to hold Tulsa Pride 2021 in-person. We will be following the guidelines set by the CDC and local community health officials.
