Lake Thunderbird Watershed Alliance to Host Community Open House on June 15th at The Station in Moore A new watershed group has been formed to help improve wate...r quality in Lake Thunderbird. The Lake Thunderbird Watershed Alliance, Inc. (LTWA) was established in late 2020 as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. The goal of LTWA is to work collaboratively with residents, communities, and other stakeholders to protect the water quality and quantity of Lake Thunderbird and to serve as a clearinghouse for Lake Thunderbird watershed-related implementation projects, research and outreach. Additionally, LTWA will be able to apply for grants to help landowners implement best management practices by providing cost-share funds to those landowners, both rural and urban, that commit to a change in either agricultural practices or reducing stormwater runoff. In an effort to determine the areas of greatest concern for people living in the Lake Thunderbird watershed, LTWA is hosting an open house on Tuesday, June 15th, from 4 to 7 pm at The Station at Central Park, 700 N. Broadway in Moore. LTWA members will be there to discuss ways residents can get involved to make a difference in the Lake Thunderbird watershed and to gather feedback from the community. For more information, please contact LTWA at [email protected] or contact Katie Fiddler at (405) 416-8190.

Today we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity under this year's slogan, "We're part of the solution." The Water Center prioritizes biodiversity preservation in efforts to help protect our aquatic ecosystems. One way to do this is to manage biological invasions that threaten native aquatic communities. In the next few weeks, we will be introducing a new media series to spread awareness of invasive species in the state of Oklahoma. Keep an eye out!
