Smallmouth can adapt their coloration to the surrounding environment in order to conceal themselves from predators and camouflage themselves from prey. The mec...hanism that allows for this are skin cells called Chromatophores. These color changes are also brought on by a number of other factors; environmental, stress, spawning activity and social status to name a few. They’re a gift. Passed along from one forward thinking angler to another. Pay it forward. Free. The. Perfectly(and purposefully?) suited to the Ozarks creeks it calls home. Browns, yellows, golds, and shades of bronze provide M. Dolomieu concealment and camouf...lage in a very challenging environment. Her native range in the Ozarks extends from NE Oklahoma east across Northern Arkansas and North to the Missouri River. Too bad the class didn’t make! Duane’s crew spent some time fishing anyway! Looks worth while! Illinois River Smallmouths!

I remember this one. Fun!

Contrary to some Facebook post the river is rising and should peak at about 6 ft at Watts soon! This is about 2 ft higher than I care to be on it it! It should ...top out tonight at Tahlequah gauge which is the one everyone uses to make decisions on floater safety. They should already be at Rafts only by now! It’s at almost 7 now and will peak at almost 8. ( At 9ft they close the river)! If you go to fish look for backwater, wear your vest always and tie stuff down! I’ll be putting together trips again once this settles Or if you want to go consider going with me to one of the small lakes on my list! Stay in your boat! Be safe, See more
