We've been asking you to vote for the penny tax to support our hospital on January 12. Here's why: - Improved Sustainability - Our hospital, like many rural hospitals, faces major challenges. The Critical Access Hospital model is complex and brings many challenges for the hospital’s financial stability. The penny tax will improve sustainability and financial viability of our hospital. With community support dollars, we will have more opportunities to improve access to service...s, enhance the health of the community, and reduce financial burden. - Service Expansion and Quality Care - Pawhuska Hospital is proud to provide care to our community. Our doors are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each year we serve thousands of individuals and keep our community healthy, strong, and vibrant in the face of economic challenges and unforeseen emergencies. We have grown from extremely small census in 2013 to most of our beds filled in 2020. We are proud to say we have added services, so patients do not have to go out of town. We have made it a priority to hire high quality staff, including a local homegrown physician, Dr. Cameron Rumsey. The penny tax will help us further that growth and continue our mission of providing quality care. - Community Economy - Our hospital is a critical component to the economic viability of our community. From the people we employ to the direct and indirect effects of spending, our value as an economic engine for the local community is undeniable. In addition, substantial indirect spending takes place further downstream in the economy. We are one of the largest employers providing 120 jobs in our community. While the penny tax directly supports the hospital, it indirectly supports the economic viability of our entire community.

For nearly 100 years our hospital has served Pawhuska and surrounding communities. Throughout the years, we have experienced tremendous support from our community allowing us to provide more services and more comprehensive care to patients. Currently, our 25 inpatient beds are utilized for acute care and swing bed patients, and we have three emergency beds including a trauma room for our 24/7 ER. On Tuesday, January 12, we ask that you continue to support your local hospital by voting Yes on the 1 cent tax referendum.
