As we approach the holiday season and have many opportunities to help those in need, remember that the CARES Act instituted a new $300 above-the-line deduction for charitable donations. If you don't itemize deductions, this is a nice way to deduct at least a portion of charitable contributions. It is only available for cash contributions and the $300 limit is per return (i.e., a married filing joint couple still only gets the $300 max).

Yesterday, POTUS signed an executive order that included a payroll tax holiday. This would reduce the amount of payroll tax taken out of qualifying paychecks (potentially up to the full 7.65% FICA).
