These signs are adding another tourist element to Tulsa, capitalizing on the nostalgia of Route 66, [Route 66 Alliance Executive Director Ken] Busby said. "Although all previous efforts to designate Route 66 as a National Historic Trail have stalled, we’re hopeful this could be the year."

The Threatt Filling Station on Route 66 in Luther, Oklahoma was selected with other notable sites across the country for this year's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.

"Even today, Route 66 remains one of the ultimate American road trips."
