Sandalwood & Sage has hosted Miranda Arana and her many musical endeavors for Art Walks as well as special musical events for the last 10 years enjoying the music of Arabesque, Ladies at Play, as well as her latest duo Nuclear Okra. The work shown below is the result of several years of focusing on her more recent duo Nuclear Okra and highlights the rich cultural diversity, energy and vibrance of Potes, Spain. We are celebrating Black History Month by featuring amazing black musicians who have contributed to every genre of music throughout history. Today we celebrate... Florence Price, the first African-American woman to have her music performed by a major symphony orchestra! Born in Arkansas in 1887, Price was a deeply religious person, and brought the music of the African-American church into her music as well as influences from the likes of Dvoák, Tchaikovsky and other European Romantic composers. A music critic from the Chicago Daily News heard her symphony (linked below) performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and declared it a faultless work, a work that speaks its own message with restraint and yet with passion worthy of a place in the regular symphonic repertoire.

While wondering if we were suffering from our annual post Christmas crud that we seem to come down with about this time each year...... we went for testing just to be safe. Turns out our results were positive. So, if you were in the store on Saturday, Jan. 2nd you may have been exposed as well. It is our suggestion that if you have any question you should get tested. IMMY labs here in Norman is still up and running and can get results to you very quickly. Sandalwood & Sage is currently closed and we intend to remain so for the next two weeks. We will not be opening the store until we test negative. We thank you for your continued support and encourage everyone to continue to be safe and exercise due diligence.
