The City of Shawnee has posted my former position as Homeless Services Coordinator. For those who do not know l, I was fired Sept 30, 2021 the day after I was p...ublicly screamed at, made fun of for my political party and personal history, and called emotional by our former City Manager, Eric Benson. Leading up to this exchange, On September 3, 2021, I had called out Mr. Benson via email, on his use of racially charged slurs and offensive stereotypes that are harmful to persons of color and persons living in poverty. In previous meetings Mr. Benson called me a radical leftist, a Marxist, and a socialist when I gave responses to his questions regarding homelessness, as in people deserve food and shelter. The very job I was hired to do, the very job listed in this description. I was hired to advocate and bring our community towards a cause and I was fired for defending this cause and myself. I was unaware my political background as a former campaign manager as well as my personal beliefs were relevant to my job as an advocate for our unhoused population. On Sept 29, 2021 Eric Benson brought a toy shopping cart to a staff meeting where he proceeded to laugh using this prop to mock our unhoused population, especially those who sleep at the Public Library. He asked me to laugh, I did not. I stood my ground and I questioned whether or not my gender or the fact I am only 26, was the reason I was called emotional. The next day, I was fired and on the paper which I refused to sign, stated I was terminated for performance. Just a few days prior at the City Commission Meeting, Mr. Benson and our City Commissioners publicly praised me for my work performance. In my months working for the City of Shawnee; we developed a coalition and brought countless organizations together. I worked directly with organizations and we brought in over $1.6 Million in grant funds. But most importantly, with little to no resources or funds, we housed nine people and connected many to services. That’s nine people who don’t have to sleep outdoors. We must keep that momentum. I’m incredibly proud of my performance while with the City of Shawnee. It has been an honor to serve my community in this capacity. That being said, It is my sincere hope they continue this program and learn how to retain strong female voices within the organization. A woman should not have to endure verbal abuse to retain her employment. Furthermore, I am proud of myself for setting boundaries and calling out the harassment I faced as a constant for months. It is my sincere request that each of you, my friends and peers, advocate for this much needed support system for our unhoused. Call injustice where you see it and demand your municipality continue action towards solving homelessness in our community.

Choice Title & Abstracting’s own Taryn Harder will be inducted into the Seminole Hall of Fame this Saturday. All of us here are so very happy for her and very proud for her. Congratulations to all the Seminole inductees this weekend.

Our office located at, 200 E Main St. Ste 2, Holdenville, will be open for business today. The plant is completely built and passed all inspections. This is a 100% digitally indexed and imaged plant. This allows us to extend or build abstracts with a short turn around time. The plant will also offer an online service to subs...cribers. So this is happening right now. The state is inspecting Choice Title’s Abstracting plant in Hughes County. That means we have completed the imaging and indexing of all the land documents in the Hughes County Courthouse. That includes oil and gas documents also. So watch for our opening coming soon.
