According to our regional power partners this ...extreme weather has produced an exceptionally high demand for electricity. We are part of what is called the Southwest Power Pool and have been asked to ask our citizens and businesses to reduce their natural gas and electricity usage. So we are asking our amazing citizens to do their part to help and protect our friends and families, provided you’re able to do so safely. Below is a list of things you can proactively do: -- Set thermostats lower than usual, if health permits. -- Avoid the excessive use of major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers -- Turn off electric lights and appliances that you do not need or are not using -- Businesses should minimize the use of electric lighting and electricity-consuming equipment as much as possible -- Large consumers of electricity should consider shutting down or reducing non-essential production processes There is a potential that rolling blackouts may occur if energy demands cannot be reduced. Some areas in Texas are already experiencing these emergency measures. We have no information on when or if they will happen. We can only ask that you be prepared and do your best to ensure that we try and conserve. If a rolling blackout does happen it will be as brief as possible to ensure that everyone in the region is protected from the extreme cold temperatures. This condition will exist until temperatures begin to rise and energy demand lessens latter in the week. So we end right where we began.
